Sony Officially Announces New Smaller and Lighter PS3

After a number of rumors suggesting a smaller and lighter PS3, Sony has officially announced the new CECH-4000 series. According to Sony, the new PS3’s are 20% thiner and 25% lighter than current Slim models. For those interested in the new model, they’re currently set to release on September 25th and will include Uncharted 3 GOTY, DUST 514 DLC, 250 GB HD for $269.99 dollars. If you prefer more storage, an additional 500 GB model is set to release later on with Assassins Creed 3, though no word on anything else or price.

Sadly those living in Europe will have to wait another 3 days, but they will be getting the 500 gb model first. If you’re more interested in speed, you can purchase a 12 gb flash storage model, which has an optional 250 gb HDD attachment. Unfortunately no word on pricing or if the flash model will come stateside, but we should know more as we get closer to the release.

Update: Some more details have been announced for the 12GB PS3 model. This model will only be released in Europe, Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand. The model will cost €229/AUD$300/NZD$399.
