When it comes to tricky games like The Surge 2, there is a lot to take in and plenty of mistakes are made. In my case, I fought one of the bosses multiple different times, noted I thought I was doing it wrong and ultimately came to discover that was the case. Other times simply trying something weird goes a long way. One boss, I only defeated because I was desperate for a better tactic and started blocking more. Having put a lot of time into The Surge 2, here are some tips to help you improve.
Here’s our The Surge 2 tips:
Balance is Important
One of the easiest mistakes to make is overvaluing health and stamina. That’s not to say they’re unimportant abilities, as much as skills yield less the higher you go. For instance, it takes 100 points in health to hit 1,000, whereas you can hit 701 with 56. If you put 44 points into stamina you’ll see a 66 percent increase in your total stamina, with it honestly taking 55 more points to hit that remaining 33 percent. Instead of chasing after another 299 health or 50 stamina, you can put 25 into the battery and get the fourth charge.
Think Carefully About Your Build
I believe I found every implant you can in The Surge 2 and while some are very situational, some make a lot of sense. I strongly suggest making two loadouts, one for everyday fights and another for bosses. Things like Kinetic Inject-Charger might be among the most useful everyday skill, it won’t help you against most bosses.
I also don’t suggest going for any gear skills. That stuff is important for trophies/achievements, but in terms of gameplay, it’s better to mix and match instead of making a build hinge on your armor perk.
Obtain Brother Truman’s Faith
While I don’t want to give too many spoilers, as soon as you leave the first area you meet a character named Brother Truman. He will tell you to find Brother Eli, who will have a quest for you. After finishing his quest, you can return to Brother Truman and there will be one dialogue option. Selecting it triggers a fight between you and him. If you slice off his arm you obtain his spear.
In addition to the spear being significantly overpowered for that point in the story, it’s also one of the very few weapons that deal electricity damage. What this will do is stun enemies so you can continue to overwhelm them. As mentioned in our review, pairing it with EMP-44 ‘Starfish’ is a great way to overcome hard obstacles.
Drones are Surprisingly Useful
As you may or may not know, in addition to finishing moves removing limbs, you can use the R-1 ‘diode’ laspistol to remove limbs. If you’re not the best at dealing with limbs, are like me and have a ton of ammo or just want to collect resources without a lot of work, most enemies will lose a limb in 20 shots with this weapon.
Many Missions Can Yield a Weapon
As we touched on in our review, missions are frustrating in The Surge 2 simply due to the right choices not always being so obvious. This is likely why the Iron Maus costume was so hard to obtain and so much more. However, if you bother to figure out the right choices, it can actually yield new weapons or implants. Some of the weirder ones include blackmailing the cop at the end of the game and doing everything the stranger wants is a free 2.0 weapon.
Most Bosses Have a Secret Way to Win
Those looking for the best gear might want to try their luck at figuring out the secret requirement for boss weapons. They’re not always obvious, most actually require a fair bit of knowledge to complete, but if you like that weapon it’s always the better version of it.
Go Down Every Path
The Surge 2 loves to give you paths that lead to a shortcut. These are the difference between dying to something stupid and then having to repeat that awful journey and going out the back door and getting there in 20 seconds. They’re invaluable and most levels have 10 to 20 of them to find.
