Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Opens Big In The UK

It’s not every day that you see a Nintendo Switch exclusive at the top of the UK gaming charts. Well this week we saw just that as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate dominated the charts to be the best selling video game for the first week of December 2018.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was pretty much the best selling new release video game this week easily topping the UK gaming charts says GameIndustry.biz. It is also being called the fastest selling Nintendo Switch game of all time as its combined launch sales were higher than that of both Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee.

The sales of the new Smash game came in at 302% higher than the Wii U version of Smash Bros that released over four years ago. The game also sold 233% better than the 3DS version of Smash Bros. that also came out in 2014. Amazingly enough, sales were also much higher than the Wii’s Super Smash Bros Brawl over a decade ago. Thus this makes this new game the fastest selling Smash game in UK history.

Bear in mind, this only counts for physical sales for the game so digital sales could mean Smash Bros. Ultimate sold even more units this week!

The only other new release to come out this week is none other than Square Enix’s Just Cause 4. Just Cause 4 sold 61.5 percent less than Just Cause 3 did three years ago which could be seen as a big disappointment. However, if digital sales were included it might have sold better than the original game did back in 2006.
