The Game Awards is becoming more popular as time goes by as the 2017 edition of the annual show reached new records in terms of viewership.
Show organizer, Geoff Keighley, announced the following on Twitter: “I simply cannot believe it: #TheGameAwards live viewership triples year over year — with historic 11.5 million live streams in 3 hours. Thank you for watching! This is beyond my wildest dreams. Gaming is taking over the world — and we are just getting started.”
Keighley started The Game Awards in response to the poorly received Video Game Awards that used to air on Spike TV in the USA. These new awards treat gamers with more respect and reward games that actually deserve praise.
Not to mention for many people, the awards are way more exciting to watch than the movie industry’s Academy Awards. Not only are the best games rewarded, but we also get to see some big announcements/trailers for upcoming video games too!
