Nomura Explains Why Kingdom Hearts 3 Is Taking So Long To Develop

As revealed recently, Kingdom Hearts 3 will finally be released in the year 2018. Director Tetsuya Nomura has now explained why the game is taking so long to develop.

Gamespot had a chance to talk to Nomura and he explained in a little more detail as to why the game is taking so long to come out. After all, the game was first announced back at E3 2013.

One of the key reasons for its delay is switching to Unreal Engine 4. The switch to a new game engine came a year after initial development so this delayed things by a lot. It was Square Enix’s decision and not his to switch to Unreal Engine 4.

It sounds like he doesn’t want to blame the development team for the delays. Every decision was done by Square Enix. To be fair, the switch to Unreal Engine 4 has improved the graphics by a lot. The latest Toy Story trailer is evident by this.

He also said it’s unlikely they are going to keep Disney Worlds a secret. Most worlds will be revealed before the game comes out. Most of them will be introduced to the lead up of the game’s launch.

As for DLC, Nomura didn’t talk much about it. He told his development team to just prepare for DLC once they get to that stage of development. Right now, they just want to start finishing the game itself! Kingdom Hearts 3 is out on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.
