As expected, the Nintendo Switch console was the best selling video games console for the month of March 2017 in North America. It is the fastest selling console in Nintendo’s history.
NPD confirms that 906,000 units of the Nintendo Switch console were sold in North America in March 2017. This makes it one of the fastest selling games consoles of all time.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also sold lots of copies. 1.3 million Zelda games were sold. 925,000 units were for the Switch version while 460,000 units sold were for the Wii U version.
NPD says some Switch owners bought the game twice which is why Zelda sales are higher than the console itself. Some people bought the Limited Edition for display purposes and then bought the standard version to actually play.
It was also mentioned that the PS4 came second outselling the Xbox One in March 2017. This could be thanks to the great reception that Horizon: Zero Dawn had.
