Assassin’s Creed Syndicate: Jack the Ripper DLC Review

The release of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was a big surprise to everyone as it improved a lot in all aspects that Unity never accomplished when it was released back in 2014. From its story, gameplay and the performance of the game, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is the Assassin’s Creed title that redeems the series from its monotonous style throughout the years. For fans who felt Syndicate needed more meat when it comes to its story, the first post-DLC has finally been released and this time, it will tell the story of Jack the Ripper.

The Jack the Ripper DLC for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate takes place two decades following the conclusion of Syndicate. With Templars finally gone in London, there’s a new threat in town – a serial killer known as Jack the Ripper has been plaguing the town, committing gruesome murders each day. Fortunately, the brothers and sisters, Jacob and Evie are there to uncover the secrets of Jack the Ripper and attempt to put a stop to his killings once and for all.

With the new DLC, both Evie and Jack The Ripper  will have a new set of skills that will be unique to the DLC. With both characters having some sort of training when they were in India with Henry Green back in their younger days, both characters now have a new ability to perform non-lethal forms of intimidation. The game now introduces the use of Fear Bombs where enemies will be engulfed with fear in which they run away when inflicted. In all honesty, the use of fear bombs feels that it’s lacking as the way Evie executes her enemies needs more variety. A minimum of level 10 is required for both characters to use new skills but luckily, those who never finished the main campaign can jump right ahead with the DLC and be at level 10.

Similar to the main campaign, Jack the Ripper DLC will alternate between Jack The ipper and Evie. When using Evie, she will focus more on the investigation segments looking for clues of the murders where Jack is more on the lethal side. Expect the game to switch between both characters back and forth as they find out the true identity of Jack the Ripper. Expect the same core elements from the main campaign to appear in this DLC where you have to climb walls, hijack carriages and assassinate certain targets.

Aside from tackling the main missions, the DLC offers sidequests for those who wish to take a break from hunting Jack the Ripper. As players progress through the three to five hour mini-campaign of the DLC, certain quest markers will appear. These sidequests vary from liberating a certain area or rescuing a certain character from the hands of Jack the Ripper’s minions. The concept is pretty much like the main campaign but fans looking for something to do aside from the main quest will be pleased to hear that they are a few side missions available in this DLC.

As for its visuals, it’s more of the same. However, the atmosphere that the game gives when finding Jack the Ripper is somewhat eerie. Yes, the sense of fear can be felt thanks to the awesome soundtrack that it has. Not to mention cutscenes are well made and whatever the main campaign exceeds when it comes to storytelling can be found in this DLC.

For fans of the series who are looking for more adventures within the world of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Jack the Ripper DLC is something you will need to consider. The DLC offers exemplary storytelling, awesome gameplay offering new skills that both Evie and Jack can use, and of course, interesting characters that makes the DLC a must buy for fans. However, those who felt Syndicate wasn’t that good, there’s a big chance the DLC will be more of the same.

  1. You keep saying that you can play as Jacob, but the player never once uses Jacob. You play as Jack the Ripper. The correct name gives the review a completely different outlook on the game
