LoL: Dominion goes into beta

Riot Games has announced that it will be running limited beta tests for the new Dominion game mode for League of Legends during off-peak times.

The testing windows will be announced via the League of Legends forums, so fans of the game can find out when they can participate in this new, exciting game mode, which promises to bring new levels of gameplay strategy to the game, as well as the MOBA genre in general.

The Dominion game mode replaces the original DoTA style map with a new Dominion-specific map, where the points make a circle, instead of three lanes, and the aim of the game is to control enough points to make your enemy’s score whittle down from 500 to 0 before the other team.  The game starts with all characters at level 3 and substantially more gold to allow the game to have a faster start, and ultimately allows the games to be shorter.  The developers claim that the games should not last longer than a half hour, unless one or more of the players is playing incorrectly.  Also added into the game are new items and Summoner Spells, with the Dominion game mode in mind.
