Pokemon Go was the biggest mobile video game of 2016, although daily users have dropped dramatically since it came out. Niantic has to think of something to increase the user base.
A report from Comscore (via Destructoid) says that Pokemon Go had a healthy number of 28.5 million daily users at launch. By the end of 2016, that number decreased to just around 5 million users.
There’s still no data yet for Generation 2 which was released earlier this year, but it’s unlikely the game will see the same amount of users than when it first launched last year.
Still, the game is still very successful compared to Super Mario Run. This is because Pokemon is actually free to play. Super Mario Run only offers a free demo as the full game is locked behind a paywall.
