New Super Mario Bros. 2 not receiving digital discount

At long last, the much awaited New Super Mario Bros. 2 is finally arriving this August 19th in North America on both retail and digital format. If you’re thinking of picking the game up this Sunday on the midnight of August 19th, you might want to think about it as there’s no discount for the digital format of the game.

Just like the retail physical form of the game, the digital version of the New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be at $39.99. It’s kinda lame how Nintendo is not giving any discount at all, since the digital format saves them from the cost of the packaging and the cart. With all of the sales going on in other stores, I highly suggest to look up some great deals instead of buying the game on the eShop. Remember that before you get to play NSMB2, you will have to wait 30-40 minute to download it.

  1. That is sad news…. i figured they’d learn from everywhere else, to put digital stuff cheaper. It pushes more people towards it.

Then again, vita does the same thing with some games. Some you save $5, others you save nothing. And in all honesty sometimes you pay MORE, since alot of games can be found on sale now.

Sad that nintendo hasn’t learned :(

  2. This article fails to mention that you do get double the amount of coins on Club Nintendo as an incentive to get the digital version.

If they are learning from Sony or Microsoft then obviously the digital version wont be any cheaper, as they cost the same (or more) on the PS3 and 360 too.

It also fails in the download time, as it only takes about 10minutes to download not 30-40 minutes.

While that is an incentive, it’s more so to buy the game early than to buy it digitally. This is similar to buying and registering a game within the first month for an additional 10 coins.

What makes you say that exactly? Ignoring the fact Sony has cross buy, every first party Vita game is discounted. Sure it’s only a few dollars, but it is a discount.

There was more server demand when this was written, so it was an accurate statement at the time.
