New Zealanders Spent Over $179.6 Million On Games In 2011

As reported by Gameplanet, consumers in New Zealand spent over $179.6 million on video games in 2011. Pretty impressive for a country with only 4 million people living there.

The announcement was made by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (iGEA). The figure includes sales of gaming software, hardware and peripherals. It doesn’t include sales from online distribution services such as games purchased via the PSN and Xbox LIVE. Mobile phone game downloads are also excluded.

This is good news for the gaming industry here in New Zealand.
