Capcom Speaks To Fans Inquiry Of Online Passes

One particularly curious customer with Gamefly decided to email said retailers with an inquiry to the release of Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Apparently Gamefly was set to not release it because of being unable to provide a code that will allow customers ‘regular gameplay’.

An Online Pass? For UMvC3? The fans cried a collective “Oh No!” or went on forums to do whatever it is that fans do, but before major speculation could spill out into the ether and public knowledge, Christian Svensson of Capcom responded on the Capcom Unity forums.

While online passes are increasingly common in our business, to clarify, there is no online pass for UMvC3. Not sure where anyone would have gotten that idea as we’ve communicated as much to our retail partners.

I’ve asked our VP of Sales to set Gamefly straight.

There’s still good in the industry after all. That, or this is all a crafty technique by Capcom who were planning on an online pass and didn’t want the bad press.

But maybe, this time, Capcom deserves the benefit of the doubt.
