Continuing our coverage of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, I have compiled a list of 5 crucial tips for having a successful stealth run-through of the story. If you want to make it out in one piece, then following these five guidelines can save you from winding up face down in a pool of you own blood. Here are 5 tips for a successful stealth playthrough.
1. Use Vents
The ventilation system will be your best friend throughout the duration of your stealth playthrough. Get comfortable with the metallic surface and tight spaces, because you will be packing a great deal of dead soldiers in those vents. The biggest clue that tells you a ventilation system entrance is near is the presence of a stack of boxes up against the wall. Move these a viola! You have yourself a rat tunnel to crawl through. If you’re lucky you will find an enemy on the other side to drag into it. Vents can put you in to advantageous positions that will give you an edge over the enemy.
2. Spend Praxis Points!
Your second best friend that you will become well acquainted with as you play is the Praxis point. These beautiful nits of imaginary goodness are your ticket to ultimate stealth power. You will need to save these up in order to purchase some of the upgrades that allow you to see through wall, walk silently and go invisible. Once you do gain these abilities you will be but a whisper on the wind…armed to the teeth and out for blood.
3. Silence That Weapon
If you are going to use a firearm your first priority is to stick a silencer on it. Without a silenced weapon on a stealth build you might as well run into a group of guards with the pin pulled on a grenade and give the nearest one an explosive punch in the neck. Yeah, it’s exactly like that. Silencers can be purchased through the various merchants in the city hub or even found while out on a mission. The crossbow is in a league of its own. This silent killer will leave your enemies screaming in pain, alerting his friends without them knowing it was you. Perfect for those of you that like to watch their prey suffer…while pinned to a wall.
4. Non-Lethal Takedowns Only
I have learned the hard way that stabbing the guy following his friend results in him screaming in his friends ear, resulting in a bad day for me. Trial and error has taught me that the only way to use hand to hand and stay silent is to go the non-lethal route. This prevents them from yelling in pain and causing a scene that can lead to you being surrounded by 5 angry individuals with assault rifles. I know you may be thinking “I don’t want to leave anyone alive though.” Well drag him into the nearest vent and plug him with a silenced weapon. Problem solved and no one is the wiser.
5. Use Cover
That cinder block isn’t just for absorbing bullets in a firefight, it can be used to hide from your enemies as well. You can move between various pieces of cover to help get around in a larger room full of unfriendly people looking to give you a few more breathing holes. It may not seem as epic as shooting at you foes, but tell me it isn’t satisfying when you silently take down a room of guards with nothing but your fists and a few silenced 10mm shots without so much as raising an alarm. Stealth gameplay at its finest ladies and gentlemen.

August 23, 2011 at 12:59 PMI am blown away by this game ever since I got my hands on it at E3. It just keeps getting better. The world they’ve created is unlike anything I’ve seen in a while, at least since Mass Effect. Why can’t Hollywood make movies this deep and this good? What the heck is wrong with them?
POLL: Does the plot of ‘Deus Ex: Human Revolution’ rival those of Hollywood scifi movies?

Yes. Human Revolution is that good. All the people that used to create original, intelligent television are now working in the video game industry. American television has been dumbed down so much that I cancelled all my tv subscriptions many years ago. I only use my tv set for gaming and training DVDs. Even the not-so-good video games on the market today are still a much better experience than today’s television and its cabal of realityTV-stupid people.
I hope the gaming industry takes notes from Human Revolution. While it is not entirely without flaws, it is HUGE step in the right direction in creating an optimal entertaining, thought-provoking, and challenging experience. The stealth experience in DE-HR is amazing; the stealth “feel” is unlike anything I have felt since playing THIEF 1 and 2 almost a decade ago.
