Now that the Wii-U is officially announced by Nintendo last week during the E3 Press Conference, a lot of consumers are wondering if the new console of Nintendo will support video playback, mainly Blu-Ray and DVD movies. Well, according to Iwata-san, the Wii-U will not support any of it.
According to an interview of Iwata, putting DVD or Blu-Ray playback on the Wii-U will be pointless as there are other devices out there that supports it. If they are to add a video playback on the Wii-U, that will pretty much increase the cost of the console.
Since the Wii-U will not have any sort of video playback, the console however will have a new social media functionality. The details on this new feature has yet to be revealed. In a Q&A of Iwata, he mentioned, “We’re looking at ways that will convey to this audience which games are fun and, ideally, in a way that will enable people who are playing those games with others, to share that information socially.”
