Rumors have started to fly about what features the next consoles from Microsoft will have in store. Early speculation suggests a built-in Blu-ray drive and more.
According to early rumored reports the Xbox 360 successor will have a drive that plays both DVD and Blu Ray with software being released on both formats. In addition to this it will have full HD video support and the CPU will be powered by IBM’s Power PC. It is expected more official information on the console will be revealed at E3.
There is also rumored suggestions of the features the tentatively named “Xbox 360 Portable” will have. It is said to have Microsoft Zune music playback compatibilities and download deliveries and a multi-screen touch panel display.
So far the information is unconfirmed at this stage nor is it official but it does bring up interesting outlooks for the next generation of hardware that is likely to come in the next few years.
Yeah because I want to shell out more of my cash to these asshole shareholders that controll everything. Give me more games instead of more consoles.
The only company that will launch a major piece of hardware at E3 will be Sony with PSP2/HD
Microsoft isn’t stupid, they aren’t going to release something years ahead of the other two. The Xbox 360 is still amazing and if Nintendo can win this generation with a recycled Gamecube I think the 360 can last a few more years. I mean at least that has DVD capabilities and the best online available. With a Slim 360, Natal and this new “3-D” fad, it’s a stopgap till the next cycle because people aren’t going to spend $500-$600 on a new console in this econemy…just Ask Sony…lol

wtf? well the “portable” description says nothing more than the already-announced Windows Mobile 7, ie XNA 4, Zune HD media and multi-touch. As for 360 successor how vague can you actually be? a Power PC chip ok? will play DVD and blu-ray = guess work and given MS said they won’t touch blu ray it’s either wrong or they have a serving of humble pie but whatever it doesn’t take a genius to figure out they need something bigger than DVD for the next console. Slow news day perhaps?
why would microsoft go with blueray when SSD r the next big thing

Why would they make software for both DVD and bluray? To me this sounds like the xbox slim everyones talking about which comes with two formats, The bluray versions of new xbox games will have more content and better graphics than there DVD counterparts etc and some games may only come out on the blu ray versions of the xbox tempting people to buy this new console and all that Jazz. I thnk that would be more plausible than a brand new xbox 720 or watever. And the xbox portable sounds like windows 7 would be great if microsoft made a special phone using windows 7 which is solely made for games i.e slide out gamepad for instance?

Ummm… in order to have a Blu-ray drive, it has to be backwards compatible with DVDs. That’s the written standard to what makes a Blu-ray drive. All Blu-ray drives can and must play DVDs, so there’s no need to say, “…the Xbox 360 successor will have a drive that plays both DVD and Blu Ray…”, because it’s a given. It’s redundant to say.

The reason the “rumours” (which is always what turns out to be true at e3’s) are coming out is because new hardware has to be launched to support what is now commonly know to be at e3 2010, 3D Gaming. 3D will be supported for xbox 360, ps3 and a new portable nintendo, but unfortunatley it can only be run at a maximum of 30fps on any of the current consoles. Developers have been complaining about limitations for a while and the current pc’s way outclass the tech of 4 and 5 year old consoles. It is tikme to move on as usual every 5 years even while the current consoles are supported for another 4 or 5. Games can only get better with new hardware, that is welcome in my books at least. So here is looking forward to the best E3 yet by FAR! Exciting times we live in.

have u not noticed how cheap bluray has gotten or that they packing in the dvd versions with alot of bluray version , sony knows that bluray will be outdated in the next few years.
rom format will be gone thank god , imagine being able to care a new released movie on ur keyring , heck the thumbdrives are up to 24 gig already , I bought a 16 gig for $40 the other day
you can put a blue ray in the 360 and i am sure you can get a 250 GB hard drive and then you got the elite that is the biggest drive that is legal and a elite is awesome and then you can put a blue ray disk in to watch so suck on that sony
