As reported on IGN Sony has started to crack down on video gaming piracy for those who illegally download software.
Sony’s started this with its newest PSP title SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 by discouraging pirates as they are now required to register the game through the PlayStation Network before they are given access to online gameplay.
UMD copies of the game will come with a voucher code which players can redeem online for those who downloaded the game via the PlayStation Store will automatically register in the background. If you purchased a used copy of the game you can an purchase a PSN entitlement voucher for $20 to play online.
IGN spoke with John Koller, director of hardware marketing at SCEA about the changes and he stated this is just the first step in cracking down on piracy and you could expect future titles to implement this. He also said that piracy damages the gaming industry and this new initiative will help to benefit the gaming industry for those who might ruin it for the rest of us.

Probably day one. Sadly, this measure probably hurts the uninformed used game buyer the most though.
