Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has now exceeded over $1 billion USD in worldwide sales. This means that approximately 15 million copies of the game have been sold thus far. Modern Warfare 2 made an estimated $550 million in its first five days of release when it launched on November 11 2009. Modern Warfare 2 also managed to overtake Call of Duty 4 in overall sales which managed to sell 14.4 million units. Other video games that have amassed $1 billion in sales are Guitar Hero III and World of Warcraft. Amazingly all these titles are owned by one publisher, Activision.
To put this further in perspective only five films have ever hit the elusive $1 billion mark. Those films are Titanic, The Return of the King, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, The Dark Knight and more recently Avatar.
