E3 2019: Watch Dogs: Legion Takes the Series in the Next Logical Direction

E3 2019: Watch Dogs: Legion Takes the Series in the Next Logical Direction

Thus far Watch Dogs: Legion is all about hyping up the play as anyone concept. It isn’t unique, Mindjack among other things offered it, but at its core it makes sense for the franchise. This isn’t just a gimmick to show how big or interesting the world is, you have a game about people creating an underground resistance where you can vet and recruit people to aid your cause.

In the additional demo sequence I got to see, we decided to recruit a random character to our side. Apparently he was in debt and wanted us to solve it, something that invoked feelings of Mr. Robot. The resulting mission showed us how tactical of an adventure this can be. ID cards can be taken via RFID, certain things could be enabled or disabled at range and even the little robot could stun one hostile force before dying for the greater good.

After the first part, there was still some mayhem to unleash. This involved causing some massive explosions while riding, yes riding, a drone, and dispatching a number of enemies. Come the end our agent did their part but due to a bad call, gave away their life. This news is relayed to their latest agent and the story continues.

While the finer points are in the air, such as scope or variety, Watch Dogs: Legion really looks like a real world. One where the stakes exist, everyone has a talent and we don’t always make it out alive. But, for now, it makes me hopeful to start my own legion on March 6, 2020.
