Anthem Doesn’t Have A Big Debut In The UK

EA’s Anthem game is now out and many people are seeing what BioWare’s latest title is all about. However, it does not look like gamers in the UK have been buying the game in droves.

As reported by Game Industry, Anthem was the best selling game this week in the UK, although its debut wasn’t as high as other EA games in the past. It’s not even the fastest selling game of 2019 as expected by many thanks to average reviews from both critics and fans.

Anthem managed to sell more copies than Far Cry New Dawn and Metro Exodus last week, but it failed to sell more copies than Resident Evil 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3. Those two games have already sold over 3 million and 5 million copies worldwide respectively.

54% of sales of the game were for the PS4 version while another 40% bought the game on the Xbox One. The remaining percentage was for the PC version.

It has also been reported that Anthem sold far less copies than 2017’s Mass Effect Andromeda which is also a game that had average reviews on launch. EA expected the game to sell over 6 million copies worldwide in one month, but its average debut means EA might not meet that expectation now.

Anthem will struggle to find an audience thanks to its poor reception. Sure the game might become better with new updates and content released in the future, but first impressions are very important. Since people do not like playing the game at launch, it’s going to have a hard time retaining its player count in the future.
