Nintendo Switch Already Sells More Units Than The Wii U’s Lifetime

The first Nintendo Wii was the company’s most successful home console selling over 100 million units worldwide. However, the successor was the Wii U and that console failed to sell many units tapping out at under 15 million units worldwide. Well it looks like Nintendo are happy once again because the Switch console is going to be a huge success.

Nintendo announced its recent financial earnings earlier this week and the numbers are very impressive compared to the Wii U era. The Switch is selling like hotcakes and might even exceed the sales of the Wii console if demand remains to be this high.

The Nintendo Switch has now sold over 14.86 million units with software units accounting for 52.57 million. This was achieved less than 12 months since the console came out on March 1st, 2017.

The Switch is more successful than the Wii U because that console only sold 13.56 million units in its entire lifetime. Software sales are at 101.65 million units, although it will only be a matter of time until Switch software sales overtakes that number too.

Some of the Switch’s most successful video games include anything with Mario in it. Super Mario Odyssey shipped 9.07 million units which is very impressive considering the game only came out as recent as late October 2017. The next highest shipment is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe shifting 7.33 million units.

Splatoon 2 is also becoming a big franchise as that game shipped 4.91 million units so far. This is a number that already exceeds the number of shipments that the original Splatoon got for the Wii U console a few years ago. Have you already bought a Nintendo Switch yet?
