Sledgehammer Games Originally Wanted To Make Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2

Call of Duty: WWII came out earlier this month much to the delight of many FPS fans. However, the game could have originally been Advanced Warfare 2 instead.

Activision CEO, Eric Hirshberg, revealed in an interview with Newsweek that Sledgehammer Games wanted to make Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2. However, fans were demanding a return to the World War II setting since many of the COD games were already set in the future.

Activision heard the fans and thought Sledgehammer were the best people to make another World War II COD video game. After all, last year’s Infinite Warfare set in the future wasn’t as well received as past COD games.

The move to a WWII setting paid off. The new game is getting far better reviews and bigger sales compared to Infinite Warfare. It will be interesting to see what other time periods will be used in future COD games.
