Dark Souls 2 is the follow-up title to the award winning Dark Souls game that launched two years ago. Since the release of the first game, Dark Souls 2 has received a lot of changes where even veterans of the first game might need some early tips and tricks before they start their journey.

How to Level Up
Unlike in the first Dark Souls where players can level their characters through any bonfires they find throughout the game, they now have to speak to a specific NPC in the game. To level up in Dark Souls 2, you must speak to Emerald Herald in Majula. You must first speak to her near the edge of the cliff on the north eastern side of Majula.
I talked to her, she said I could level and now I just cant.
You just have to talk to her a few times, after you’ve initiated about 3 dialogues from her she gives you the options to level and increase the estus similar to that of the maiden in Demon Souls.

Make sure you have enough souls and ALWAYS keep pressing ‘talk’ until the NPC’S chat cycles around as youc an miss many very important clues and options.
well thats stupid. i lost 5k souls because i didnt know i had to cycle her dialouge just to get the level up option. kind of an unnecessary hurdle if u ask me.
