Microsoft Launches Controversial Campaign For Gamers To Ditch PS3 For Xbox One

xbox one campaign

Microsoft stores are allowing gamers to get $100 off the purchase of the Xbox One if they trade in their PS3 console.

The promotional email says the following:

Visit your store, let us recycle your PS3, and get $100 of store credit towards the purchase of a new Xbox One

This offer is only valid at brick and mortar Microsoft stores in the USA and Canada. It will last until the end of February.

I don’t see the point of the campaign at all really. The Xbox One retails for $500 but the PS4 goes for $400. I’m sure many PS3 gamers would rather keep their PS3 and pay $400 towards a PS4 instead. What does Microsoft gain from recycling the PS3 too by selling the Xbox One for $100 cheaper? At least Gamestop will sell the console again to make a profit. Both sides lose out in this situation.

Do you think this is the oddest campaign ever?
