Tales of Xillia Guide – Magnus Zero (Optional Dungeon)

Tales of Xillia - Fezebel Marsh - Magnus Zero

As soon as you finish the game and the credits have rolled, you will receive several items where one of them will allow you open up a new dungeon that is called Magnus Zero.

Legends have said that those who seek out the six Devil’s Beasts and obtain the six weapons, the almighty Golden Mage Knight appears and challenges those who appear before him. If you are planning to get the Platinum Trophy of the game and learn every single artes for Jude, taking down the Golden Mage Knight is one of the steps that you need to do.

Assuming you finished the Devil’s Beasts sub-event that the man gave you in Sapstrath Seahaven, you may have noticed that the weapons you have received from the beasts aren’t the most powerful ones. Well, that’s because you will need to take down the almighty Golden Mage Knight to unlock its true power. Using that Golden Key you receive after the credits have rolled, you can enter the Magnus Zero at Fezebel Marsh and fight the Knight at the very depths of the dungeon.

The moment you enter Magnus Zero, you will see that you have arrived in Fennmont. Wait, is it really Fennmont? Well not really. In Magnus Zero, you will come across the areas that you have been before and fight numerous monsters. By entering the green portal, you advance to the next state. To reach the Golden Mage Knight, you have to enter any of the “green portals” around ten times. It doesn’t matter which green portals you go to since it will lead you to one path.

If you finish the game and you are under leveled, you will be able to use the Magnus Zero as a leveling ground to get you to at least level 80-90. Defeating the monsters in Magnus Zero isn’t really necessary to face the Knight. You can skip the monsters and just proceed to the green portals – it’s really your choice but taking down these monsters, along with an experience boost will get you to the max level in no time.

In addition in using the Magnus Zero as your leveling ground, take this opportunity as well to gather up materials to fully max out the shop levels. Each of the materials you get from this dungeon gives a lot of points. Aside from the materials, you can also get a lot of the Jet Black Feathers in the game.

When you reach an area that looks exactly like Bermia Gorge, save your progress as that’s the last area before you get to fight the Golden Mage Knight.

Good luck!

  1. Once you beat him you can go further into Magnus Zero to face him a 2nd time, I faced him the second time when I reached that Ice cavern where you fight the twin ice dragons. I think you can even fight him a 3rd or 4th time since its suppose to show all the places you been and it doesn’t explore all of them.

P.S. best to buy some blue seprhia and blue monocles or normal ones to gain a lot of money and materials, over a million gald after 2 trips and a lot of linked encounters

  2. beat him at level 74 as my highest level. used Jude as my tank had about 7800 HP, Mila as a Damage Dealer, and 2 healers with Leia and Elize they only used buffs and healed the entire time.

  3. Quick question. If you’ve beaten the game but DIDN’T get the Devils Arms beforehand, Will the old man immediately give you the key when you speak to him after doing so, or do you have to face the final boss again?

You get the key from the final boss…the old man activates the sub event

  5. I’ve faced the Mage Knight three times so far, or maybe four. Regardless, there’s a cutscene after you’ve fought him enough, with the characters discussing the nature of Mage Knight and Jude expressing pity for him, as usual. The latest area I’ve gone to is the one where the purple miasma was, where you kill a Devil Beast at the bottom of a shaft. The team mentioned by hero is ideal, although I replaced Leia with Rowen since my Leia’s underleveled. A strategy I found useful when playing as Jude is to target the Conductor (Rowen’s counterpart) and the Puppeteer (Elize’s counterpart) to avoid devastating AoEs. I used that one skill where Jude jumps and shoots flame at the ground (I’ll find the name later) to juggle those enemies while the other pair took care of the others, and used linked artes when the enemies attempted to chain a combo due to linking. I beat them on Normal with Jude, my highest leveled character, at level 68, although it took a while. They give 120k exp minimum, with a max of 240k if you use food effects. There’s no gold, so don’t bother with that effect. Oh, and make sure to stock up on gels and related items before going in, since there’s no item shop in the dungeon. I’ll post another comment later if anything notable occurs in further runs.

  6. The name of the skill is Pheonix Plunge, and I fought GMK 3 times before new areas stopped appearing. That cutscene was the last one. Switching out Rowen with Leia made a huge difference, once she was leveled. As a last note, have Leia set to counter spells to combat Duelist’s heals, or better yet another player. I’m finally done with this, yay.
