Zynga raises 1.2 Million for Haiti Quake Victims

After last Tuesday’s devastating earthquake, Haiti and it’s people continue to suffer aftershocks like the 5.9 magnitude quake this morning.  Some of the most influential people in the motion picture, music and television industries are offering their help to the victims, and Zynga, the social gaming giants behind Farmville, Mafia Wars, Cafe World and others has raised a considerable chunk of change for the relief effort in Haiti.

By offering limited edition items via their games, Zynga has already raised over a million dollars.  This is no doubt due to the popularity of the company’s games through sites like Facebook and Myspace.  Besides offering special ways to donate through the games, there is also a separate site if you’d like to contribute (wfp.org)  and absolutely 100% of the proceeds benefit the World Food Programme (WFP), a very reputable charity.  In a press release on their blog, Zynga CEO Mark Pincus wrote, “The devastation in Haiti is unimaginable, and anything we or our users can do is tiny compared to the utter loss for this nation.”
