Grand Theft Auto V has earned the most money ever for an entertainment product. Thanks to the game selling over 90 million copies across multiple platforms, the game has now amassed over $6 billion in revenue for Rockstar Games.
According to a report by Game Rant, Grand Theft Auto V is now the “most profitable entertainment product of all time”. This makes it by far the best selling GTA game of all time. It’s not just sales of the game that keeps the money rolling as GTA Online helps the money flowing as well.
The $6 billion revenue also means the game has outgrossed lots of movies too. James Cameron’s Avatar still remains as the highest grossing film of all time by earning over $2.7 billion at the worldwide Box Office. The most recent film to come close to Avatar was Star Wars: The Force Awakens which earned over $2 billion around the world.
Rockstar is set to earn even more money later this year when it releases Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 and Xbox One on October 26th, 2018. It may not sell as many copies as GTA V, but the Red Dead sequel is still expected to be the best selling video game of 2018.
