Netflix Explains Why They’re Currently Not On Nintendo Switch

Putting a Netflix app on Nintendo Switch seems line a no brainer, but sadly the popular video streaming service is not available on it. Well it sounds like Netflix wants to talk with Nintendo about it, but the latter isn’t concentrating on video apps at the moment.

As reported by Mobile Syrup, Scott Mirer, Netflix vice president of device partner ecosystem, he mentioned in a recent Q&A panel in Silicon Valley that Nintendo is not interested in the video app at this very moment. Right now, Nintendo is focusing more on the video games instead.

Mirer said the following: “In the case of the Switch, they [Nintendo] were very focused at launch not on video-use cases, but on gaming cases, video was not a priority for them. Whether that changes over time, we have a great relationship with them and look at the possibility of [supporting] the Switch. We each have opportunity cost around that, but at some point, it might happen.”

Considering how popular the Switch is, it seems weird that Netflix is not a main priority for Nintendo at the moment. It would be super useful to have since the Switch is a portable device that people use wherever they go like a tablet.

Hopefully something changes in the next few months so Switch owners around the world can finally use Netflix. After all, everyone needs to binge on the latest TV shows once in a while.
