Sony Has Now Shipped Close To 77 Million PS4 Units Worldwide

Sony’s PS4 console continues to dominate over the rest of the competition as the company announced some new shipment numbers. It’s safe to say overall PS4 shipments will overtake the PS3 by the end of the year.

Sony announced its latest financial results and the company managed to shift 9 million PS4 units in the last quarter. As of December 31st, 2017, the total shipments of PS4 units now stand at 76.5 million.

To put this in perspective, the console has shipped close to 80 million units in a span for just around four years. It took the PS3 around seven years to reach shipments of 80 million so the newer console is selling at a much faster rate.

It’s safe to say the PlayStation 4 will join the over 100 million unit club along with the original PSOne and the best selling console of all time the PS2. Only the PSP, PS Vita and PS3 failed to sell over the 100 million unit mark.

The PlayStation brand will continue to grow in 2018 with new releases that include God of War, Spider-Man, Detroit: Become Human and more. In the future, there will also be the release of the highly anticipated The Last of Us 2.

It will also be a big year in terms of third party releases too. Some big console games include the likes of Kingdom Hearts 3, Red Dead Redemption 2 and a host of other titles.

The biggest reason why the PS4 is more popular than the PS3 is thanks to a more diverse library of games and it launched at a far more reasonable price. Not to mention the console won many fans over when Microsoft tried to limit the way you resell and rent physical games during the Xbox One’s initial launch plans. Thankfully, Microsoft scrapped all the horrible ideas and the Xbox One is much better now than its original plans.
