Call of Duty: WWII Stays On Top Of The UK Gaming Charts

The move to an older setting has done wonders for Activision because Call of Duty: WWII is selling like hotcakes over in the UK. This is a big improvement over the sales dip that the publisher experienced last year with the release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

As noted by GFK Chart Track, Call of Duty: WWII remained at the top spot for the ninth consecutive week over in the UK. Nobody has been able to usurp the game since its release last year. It managed to fend off Star Wars Battlefront 2, Need for Speed Payback and more.

Activision saw a slump in Call of Duty sales with Infinite Warfare in 2016. That game was poorly received by the COD community mainly because they didn’t like the futuristic setting. Not to mention Activision purposefully bundled Modern Warfare Remastered with the game. That was until they decided to finally release Modern Warfare Remastered on its own weeks later.

The chart showed the best selling games ending on December 30th, 2017. It’s safe to say that Call of Duty: WWII was the best selling game of 2017 over in the UK.

Following closely behind is FIFA 18 which is another franchise that UK gamers love each and every year. Football is their favorite sport of all time so expected to see FIFA 18 on the charts for the rest of 2018 until FIFA 19 comes out.

Third this week was Star Wars Battlefront 2. Battlefront 2 is selling well, although its sales aren’t as high as the 2015 video game. The slump is blamed on EA’s pay-to-win feature of the game at launch, which has since been removed due to negative feedback. Not even the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi helped Battlefront 2 beat Call of Duty: WWII.

Call of Duty is likely going to stay at the top of the UK charts until Monster Hunter World and Dragon Ball FighterZ releases in late January.
