10 Tips to Overcome Fortnite’s Zombie Invasion

One of the worst aspects of free-to-play and RNG heavy games is making due with what you get. If you get a legendary hero and the right couple of weapons, it can make things a lot easier than someone swimming in low tier or useless items. Thankfully, since Fortnite is a dynamic game, any issue can be overcame with good teamwork and maximizing your resources. And, with these tips, you can be on your way to enjoying the more hardcore aspects of Fortnite.

Pay Attention to the Tutorials and Explore the Menus

There are a lot of things you need to learn to be successful at Fortnite and one of the most important things is crafting better weapons. This won’t be a problem for melee weapons, as they tend to use resources you find, but range weapons need crafted materials.

To do this, bring up your inventory and select crafting. On the left hand side there should be two items, blast powder and duct tape. By crafting these you can create more powerful weapons. These items can also be obtained by recycling higher tier weapons, so keep that in mind if you lack resources.

Take a Look at Every Possible Quest

Most quests require very little and can be done while doing other things. Some of the easiest, like trying out a different class, will reward rare items and daily missions offer invaluable resources.

Save V-Bucks for Super Llamas

Unless you want/need founder’s coins, save V-Bucks for super Llamas. Despite costing over 1,000, these give legendary gear, with some people reporting multiples in their package, increasing your chances of getting something good. And, even if the item sucks, you can add it to your collection.

Level your Collection

Generally speaking, you’re going to get a lot of items you’ll never use or have little to no value. Instead of holding them for no reason or destroying for some experience, add them to your collection. While I can’t speak for the quality of every reward, the Llama from there seems to be extremely useful and one of the earlier rewards is training manuals, allowing you to evolve a character, trap and weapon to the next level.

Think About Trap Placement

It goes without saying the most logical trap location is in front of the objective. Here enemies will walk into it, they will slow down progress and so forth. However, depending on how the stage is set up, traps can be placed in clever locations.

For instance, I’ve had a few maps where enemies came from over a ridge to get to the objective. So, instead of just placing traps in front of them, traps were placed where they would land. Enemies never attacked the traps from behind, so it was essentially free damage. Smart moves like this can make a massive difference.

Look at the Skill Tree and Determine What you Want to Prioritize

At first the skill tree is a straight line with little to no options, but it eventually expands, offering many different directions. The direction you take should reflect the resources you need. To put it another way, I happened to get a legendary ninja, so instead of finishing the top path, I went south to unlock the ninja class, followed by going to the right so I could evolve that character. By prioritizing the right things, you’ll be able to progress faster and ultimately unlock more neat things.

This is especially important for tech. Considering you get a finite amount per day, it’s better to quickly build towards skill you value, be it a larger backpack or more squad spots. Taking a minute now could easily save you hours/days down the road.

Always Look At Items Before Destroying Them

Often times the best gear isn’t what you get for destroying items, but searching them. These will often times give you rarer materials like nuts and bolts and if you’re really lucky, weapons, fortifications and more. There really isn’t a situation where destroying them is better than searching them.

Keep an Eye Out for Secrets

Some of the best loot isn’t hidden in obvious locations, but hidden rooms and roof tops. To find these items you can either randomly break things, which is a great idea in suspicious looking buildings or look for clues. It isn’t uncommon to see a room with a broken wall that leads to a hidden room with a chest.

Many Caves Have Rare Materials

Throughout your adventures you’ll come across caves, which might seem pointless on the outside, but inside there could be untold treasures. Many of these lead to useful materials like copper to even a chest.

Gnomes Tend to Have Good Loot

Perhaps one of the most unusual items you can destroy are gnomes, which, in addition to unlocking a trophy/achievement for destroying a bunch, they sometimes have really good loot. This will vary, with some offering nothing of note, but they’re usually a better source of materials than a bush or tree.
