Fighter Within (Xbox One) Review

Fighter Within 01

Among the launch games of the Xbox One, Fighter Within is one of the titles that takes advantage of the new and improved Kinect 2.0. Promising gamers that the Kinect will be more accurate than its predecessor on the Xbox 360, many hoped that the Fighter Within will show some of the capabilities of the new-found technology built within the newly improved camera. Unfortunately, the game didn’t live up to expectations as the Fighter Within ended up as an utter mess that may disappoint Xbox One owners looking forward to see what the new camera is capable of.

When it comes to the story of Fighter Within, players will find that this game is one of the first that incorporates a tutorial mode within its story. To unlock the moves and other combos that you can do within the game, you must first go through the lengthy tutorial called the Initiation process. After learning all of the moves and combos, the somewhat mediocre story starts. Compared to other fighting games, Fighter Within has the weakest, if not the worst story out of all of them.

Fighter Within 02

The story of the game starts off with Matt, a man who is on the job to find a book that will protect his clan from some sort of unknown force. To get the book he’s looking for, he will be fighting what seems to be an endless group of people who will try to stop him. Well, I hate to break it to you, but the poor storytelling and scripting conveyed in this game makes the pace and storyline confusing. Not to mention voice acting is weak and those who will play this game will lose the motivation to care at all when it comes to the story. For gamers who are brave enough to get through the storyline, Fighter Within can be finished in about two hours.

Fighter Within is a fighting game where you don’t use any gamepad to control your characters. Instead, you will be controlling through the Kinect sensor by performing different moves like punching and kicking. As a Kinect game, many hoped that the camera will be able to capture your moves in a one-to-one ratio. That didn’t happen in this game as the accuracy is way off and if you try hard enough to do the combos and other moves, expect to be sore the next day.
