Fable: The Journey Review

Gain Experience and Customize
Similar to the first three Fable games, you will spend a little of your time making your hero stronger and increasing the horse’s stamina. With the experience orbs you get from scouring the world and defeating enemies, you fill up the circle icon on the upper left hand corner. You will get an upgrade point in which you can use to make both the Hero and Seren stronger.

Going through the Caravan Can Get Tedious
As mentioned earlier, you will spend most of the time going through Albion with Seren, flicking both your hands to navigate a horse. While you might find it interesting at first since the game captures your movements perfectly, you will slowly grow tired of it, making all the exploring with Seren tedious. Luckily, there are parts of the game where you can just rest your arms and take a break from all the flicking to just watch cutscenes.

Motion Controls Aren’t Always Precise
One of the problems that plagues every motion control game is precision. Regardless if you are in the perfect spot to play Fable: The Journey, you will experience a lot of problems with the motion controls, like the camera failing to recognize your movements. This can lead to doing the gestures all the time for more than ten seconds or making your aim go off-screen. The controls of Fable: the Journey are perfect, but since there will be times where it won’t recognize your moments, it will spoil the fun big time and all you can do is wait for the camera to recognize you again. In my playthrough, it happened to me once or twice every time I played it even though I played in a large space with no obstructions.

VERDICT

Not mentioning the not-so-perfect motion control precision in the game, Fable: the Journey is a great Kinect game that Fable fans will appreciate. The game has a story-driven plot which will engage fans of the series and keep them playing non-stop. Out of all the Kinect games that I’ve played, Fable: the Journey is an interesting on-rail adventure game that Kinect owners should get as it looks and plays beautiful when it works.
