Despite some fan misgivings about the application of Zelda Skyward Sword’s motion controls, future Zelda titles will most likely utilise them, says Eiji Aonuma.
Aonuma, who has been the lead designer on The Legend of Zelda games since 2003’s Wind Waker, revealed in a recent interview with Official Nintendo Magazine that he thought the control scheme in Skyward Sword had been a success.
“I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now, so I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too,” Aonuma said.
Aonuma also stated that he had considered scrapping the games motion controls during the games development.
The next console Zelda game is a long way off, but there’ll be no prizes for guessing that it’ll appear in some form on the Wii U. How Nintendo will utilise both the dynamic controls of the Wii motion plus and the tablet screen of the Wii U remains to be seen.

What, the 360 and PS3 “real” gamers who can’t do anything without mashing buttons? Or do you not like motion controls? Just because you don’t like, you don’t have to make it look like everyone hated the motion controls.

January 30, 2012 at 9:19 AMNo Bob, I enjoyed the motion controls in Skyward Sword, although certainly not everyone did, hence ‘some fan misgivings’. The point is that the motion application in Skyward Sword is something of a devisive issue.
Nor do I think that, by pointing out this polarised opinion, I’ve made ‘it look like everyone hated the motion controls.’
