PlayStation Vita And PSP Memory Card Price Comparison

Sony has now released the RRP for the PlayStation Vita cards and it’s surprisingly cheaper most people think. Even cheaper than the memory stick pro duos for the original PSP.

As shown on the PlayStation Blog, the official RRP for the PS Vita memory cards. Lets take a look at the New Zealand RRP for the PS Vita memory sticks as a comparison.

RRP for PS Vita Cards:

4Gb Memory Card – $34.95 NZD
8Gb Memory Card – $59.95 NZD
16Gb Memory Card – $84.95 NZD

This seems reasonable enough especially when you compare it to the RRP of the official Sony memory stick pro duo that you can use for the original PSP model.

Here’s the RRP of the memory stick pro duo from the official Sony distributor:

4Gb Memory Card – $44.95 NZD
8Gb Memory Card – $79.95 NZD
16Gb Memory Card – $129.95 NZD

As you can see from the comparison, the PS Vita cards are actually significantly cheaper than that of the memory stick pro duo. Both prices are the official RRP set by Sony. I’m told the price for the PS Vita memory cards are cheaper around the world and not just in New Zealand. In America, the 4Gb PS Vita memory card was priced at $29.99 but now is will only cost you $19.99.

Are you amazed as I am about the RRP price Sony has set for the PS Vita memory cards?

  1. UH no, you need to think about it. The PSP memory card was for SAVES. So the price was not an issue. The VITA cards are the games for the system. So you will need to spend a LOT more on cards as you get more games. A 4GB card could be used up your first day……. on a couple games…..Its what sony does best…….get EVERY penny extra can out of us…..I want physical games, always have always will. Some day you will NOT be able to redownload them, and when the card fails……… YOU lose everything.

  2. Also think about it. How many years ago did the PSP come out? 16GB was unheard of back then. It was alot. Most devices that used SD cards or memory sticks, really only used 128mb-500mb back then. So yeah 4GB cost a lot. Doesn’t really make much since for you to compare the prices of sticks back then to prices of the cards now. What you should of done was compared the Vita sticks to what the cost of most sticks are today. Your getting F’ed in the A.

  3. Are you an idiot? Memory(incl. cards, hard drives) is one of the things that is getting cheaper by the _minute_??
It was only 5 years ago when 1GB of hard drive space costed 1$. Now you can get 1000Gb for 100$. In 5 years, 1000Gb will be 20$.
5 years ago a 32Gb card would’ve costed thousands of dollars.

Also, some years after original PSP launch, I bought an SD card of 8Gb for 14€ from China. 8Gb was the biggest reasonable price card available. Back then original 8Gb cards costed like 40€. Then the price dropped significantly.

You are just the biggest retard I’ve ever seen in the world wide web.
32Gb card will cost 10$ in the next 5 years you fucking idiot. Nothing to do with Sony ripping people off. I just sincerely hope that the Chinese will replicate the memory card and pirates destroy the whole console for this shit. I’m never buying Vita just because of this.
