Although the PS3 could already play games in stereoscopic 3D it is only now that Sony announced that the PS3 will also play 3D Blu-ray movies as well.
Sony said during the Tokyo Games Show that the latest firmware (v.3.50) update will allow PS3 owners to play 3D Blu-ray movies. This latest feature will benefit those who have already bought a new 3D capable TV as they can now view their favourite films in full 3D in the comfort of their own homes. Movies already on 3D Blu-ray include Monster vs Aliens and Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Upcoming 3D Blu-ray releases include James Cameron’s Avatar and Toy Story 3. With a plethora of movies now being made in 3D, expect more releases to be made available for 3D Blu-ray playback.
Firmware v.3.50 is slated to be released on September 21, 2010.
