Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Sticks to UMD for North America

When Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep was released in Japan late last year, it was exclusive to UMD, leaving PSPGo owners unable to play the title. Now that the game is officially announced in North America for Summer release, I immediately asked Square-Enix PR to see if North America will be receiving the same treatment it did in Japan. Since we’re months away from the game’s release, the PR of Square-Enix responded with:

“No news on PSN at this time”

Since piracy is rampant in the United States, I am highly doubtful that a game as big as this will not be meant for PSN release. Up until now, the JP Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep has yet to be cracked by pirates, which is one more step towards the big fight of piracy on the PSP.

    Bullshit. This is innoying

    I still have a psp1000, but I like the convience of download. Especially since, if/when the PSP2 comes out without a UMD drive, ill still be able to play my PSP1 games on it.

    I heard its because diseny doesnt do Digital distribution for their games, which makes sense, it cant be Squares fault because Dissida just came out for PSN (EU)

    Its odd, because 1/2 of the PS1 classics on the EU store are Disney games. mabye it will come out for PSN for europe… im hopeful.

    I’m sure its bound to come on the PSstore for europe.

    Square has dissida on the PS store- so it cant be them holding it back
    and every week europe gets a PS1 classic! too bad its a crappy disney game.

    Sony already said any game released on the PSP after a certain date will have both UMD and PSN versions. This date has already passed, if I am not mistaken. Why would they go back on that?

    Because it wasnt “any” game only 1st party games will be released on umd and psn on the same day since square is a 3rd party dev plus the fact it has a program that makes it not play on a memorystick, and Disney refusal to put things in digital format(japan-only) it seems fair to say that it looks like it wont be on the psn.

    I hope it does since sadly i only have a psp go
