A Sony representative recently mentioned in an interview that there’s a possibility of PlayStation 2 games making an appearance on the PlayStation Network, such as the way PS1 games are already distributed on the service.
From our side, we’re going through our own studio organization and trying to make sure all these old games are out there so that we can lead by example, but we’re also communicating with all the third-parties about the success of the Final Fantasy games, and other PS1 and PS2 classics. By all means, I think people can look for more of that because once the third-parties see how this works, it’s just found money. There’s not a whole lot of work that has to go into it and once we can get it up on the network, it finds an audience pretty quickly.
– Peter Dille, PlayStation Senior VP
The fact that rumors have been bouncing around since the launch of PSN and the above statement, as well as mentioning that PlayStation staff are busily “working hard on bringing” PS2 games to PSN, almost makes this an official announcement, although not yet too serious.
I’d be happy if this happened, although games would take up a rather large amount of space. Just give me some of the rarer games (ICO and Ar tonelico for example) and I’ll happily support it!

February 3, 2010 at 10:03 PMThe reason I still have a PS2 is Dragon Quest VIII. I’d surely download it again.
However, if the PS3 can play PS2 games then there’s no reason not to read the good ol’ PS2DVD!
