UK Sales: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Fails To Overthrow Call of Duty: WWII

Despite being a much better game than the 2015 Battlefront video game, the controversy behind microtransactions and loot boxes affected the sales of Star Wars Battlefront 2 in the UK.

A few weeks ago, many assumed Star Wars Battlefront 2 would be a big seller. However, EA used a pay-to-win system with its online multiplayer mode and scared lots of buyers away. EA has backtracked on it, but it was too late.

As reported Game Industry first week sales for the Battlefront sequel are 50 percent lower than Battlefield 1 last year. Even the 2015 Battlefront game sold 61 percent more copies!

The report even says digital sales aren’t going to be enough to save the drop off. It will be interesting to see how the sales will be in the future, but it looks like people already made up their minds on the game.

55 percent of sales were for the PS4 version of the game. 44 percent were on the Xbox One with only the remaining 1 percent on PC. The game failed to overthrow Call of Duty: WWII on top of the charts.

Sales for WWII are going really well. In three weeks, it has sold as many copies as Infinite Warfare did last year in seven weeks. Activision is doing better than EA this year.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 was the other new release in the top 10 this week. It will be interesting to see which game is the best selling one for the Christmas season. FIFA and COD are likely to still dominate in the UK.
