Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Review

PvZ Garden Warfare 01

The Plants vs. Zombies franchise has gone through many revisions over the years of its existence. A game that started on mobile devices where plants are defending their turf from zombies, the game has now evolved into a shooter game making things more fun in the process. Ditching the classic Plants vs. Zombies gameplay we all loved over the years on mobile devices, the game has become more intense and exciting to play. For gamers who love both the shooter genre and Plants vs. Zombies, this is the game that you might consider picking up.

Garden Warfare is a third person shooter game that revolves around the characters in the popular Plants vs. Zombies franchise. Instead of its original 2D look, the game has transformed into 3D and the characters look surprisingly good. The main premise of the game is simple, both the Plants and Zombies side must attack one another in the plethora of online modes available in the game.

For both the sides of the Plants and Zombies, each have their own specific classes like the Cacti where they specialize in sniping, the Chompers where they burrow underground and spit goo onto enemies to slow them down and deactivate their abilities. For those who are fond of shooter games, there’s that simple class like the Peashooter where you literally just shoot peas, despite its slow firing rate and a Sunflower where it will act as a healer to heal teammates who are in need of life. As for Zombies, they have a variety of classes as well that players can pick from such as a football player that can use guns, and a wacky Zombie doctor. Each of the characters that you can get to play as has their own respective hidden powers as well.

As gamers play through the variety of modes available, characters that you use can level their ranks. The higher rank they get, the better powers they can unlock. Don’t worry about spending too much time unlocking them as each of the classes only have three. For every time you unlock, a tutorial video will be shown showing you its powers. If you are worried about not having too much time in unlocking their abilities, don’t be, as they will can be unlocked in several matches.

Fans who love the classic defending the garden, there is this mode called Garden Ops. Pretty much, you can play with up to four people and it’s up to you to defend the garden from Zombies. Think of this mode as horde mode, since there will be several waves that you will need to clear and at some point, a big boss will be there to attack the garden. From the variety of modes available, I must say that this is the most challenging one as you will have to pull all strings to get your garden safe from the AI-controlled zombies – some are challenging and yes, you will die a lot of times but the good thing is, you can be revived by teammates.

Defending the garden is one of those things people usually do in a Plants vs. Zombies games and luckily you will be doing the same exact thing in this game, although they are mostly done in a very aggressive way. Through the different maps available for the game, you will come around several pots around the battlefield. Luckily, you can use these pots as defensive plants that you can put around the garden. The more you have these plants, the safe your garden will be from the zombies. There are a lot of varied plant items that can help you out in defending and yes, you can look for them around the map.
