Take this rumor with a grain of salt, as it is more than likely just a marketing mistake, but it was worth mentioning due to the oddity of it regardless. Nintendo has been about as slow as it gets with trickling out games on the Virtual Console even dating back to the Wii. To this day, Super Nintendo games have not been available on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console, but a picture from Nintendo World Report from the new Miiverse communities seems to show a Super Nintendo title on the 3DS, but the image itself still says Wii U.
As you can see in the image above, the Contra III: The Alien Wars community page on Miiverse shows the game with a 3DS border. All other SNES communities show it on a Wii U GamePad instead. However, the listing itself still says Wii U in the bottom right corner. This is either a big mistake on the marketing team’s part that created the image for the community, or an accidental leak of Super Nintendo games coming to the 3DS VC. While more than likely the former, we will just have to wait and see for sure.
