Nintendo decided to hold a new Nintendo Direct ahead of the next gen launches next week with a specific focus on the Nintendo 3DS. During this, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo Network ID will finally be coming to the 3DS in its next update.
While sadly this doesn’t mean that you will be able to cross-buy titles between the 3DS and Wii U, it will however allow for the ability to integrate your eShop balances between the two systems. This is definitely a great addition if you have money on one of your accounts, but want to buy a game on the other instead. All you have to do is use the same Nintendo Network ID on your 3DS as your Wii U and you will be able to unify the balances.
The update will also finally bring Miiverse to the handheld. Miiverse is the social networking platform that was first released on the Wii U. This brings communities based on many different games that you can interact with easily.
The Youtube app will be coming the 3DS as well along with the update. This new app integrates the two screen experience by letting you search videos on the bottom screen while still watching on the top. The Wii U will also be getting an update to the already existing Youtube app that is more in line with the coming 3DS app.
