One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 Review

One Piece Pirate Warriors 2

True To Its Roots
Some titles lose impact when they are translated or adapted for another gaming culture. Fortunately, One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 does not fall into this trap. The developers have thankfully decided to keep the Japanese voice acting and narration in the game. It seamlessly blends with the rest of the game’s design and with the English subtitles and text it feels like the games culture is being preserved. Also it keeps true to how the developers originally wanted and designed the game to be. No watering down has occurred just the simple translation of text and added subtitles have been changed.

Coins & Beli
Playing levels sees players collect both coins and Beli. Beli is the currency of the One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 world and is earned from completing levels and in game treasure chests. Once earned Beli can be spent in the Beli Shop to unlock movie dials, sound dials and more which are then watchable in their respective galleries.

Another thing players collect throughout their journey are coins. Collected coins can be equipped to the character you have chosen to boost Attack, Defence and life attributes. The more coins of a specific one the stronger you will be. Secret coins can also be found in each level giving players something extra to keep an eye out for whilst defeating tides of enemies.

Camera Issues
Thankfully the lock-on system for combat saves the games combat being ruined by an otherwise jolty camera control system. The camera movements aren’t smooth when redirecting with the right analogue stick. It is fine for during big open sections, but in small areas the camera issue is noticeable and can cause a little bit of frustration. Smoothing the camera out would surely be a simple job and without it makes the final polish of the title feeling let down.

Verdict

One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 is a title that offers gamers something a little different. It has a unique style, a great bunch of distinctive characters to choose from and managed to turn defeating almost endless waves of enemies from a chore into a joy. The fast paced music mixes with the forceful colorful combat moves; all in all adding together to create a heart pumping title. There is the issue with the camera movement, but mercifully it doesn’t affect the game too much. One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 is entertainment that can easily fit into any gamers collection whether or not they are a huge One Piece fan.

  1. Great review. I’m planning to get it tuesday, though i’m really disappointed that Namco/Koei didn’t give NA psn members the option of preordering it on the psn store like EU did.
That means we could possible be locked out of all the exclusive preorder bonus outfits and scenerios that EU got. :(
They also did this with Tales of Xillia and Saints Row 4 as well.
