DICE the developers that are behind the first person shooter Battlefield 3 have today answered a couple of questions on the new Battlefield 3 Rent A Server feature.
Firstly when asked if it would soon be possible to filter out private servers when searching for a game on the Xbox 360, DICE responded saying “Not at the moment, but we’re reviewing this suggestion”. The company was later asked if more servers would be available for renting to which they replied, “We’re currently deploying these servers as fast as possible while ensuring their performance and stability, thanks.”
So it seems the servers have gone down reasonably well let’s hope they can get more up and have more options for them and for game searching in the near future.
The whole “Rent a Server” thing is a complete sham and just another way for EA to make more money. I have an Xbox, so I pay for the Game £45 plus Xbox live and now basically I have to pay more money to be able to play the game how I want it.
I have always said They need to add in some features from the Modern Warefare collection like the ability to create private games for just you and a couple of friends but they still have it so you need a minimum of Eight and make it an options so you can select select the maps you want to play on and take out ones you dont.
EA have now done this but you have to pay Extra for the privilege of doing buy renting a server at a ridiculous price of 4900 points for 90 days which lets be honest is quite expensive.
Now these changes I with the game options and private matches should have been in the game to begin with but coming from playing Bad Company 1 and 2 I did not expect them to add and low and behold they didnt. But the worst thing is that they have kind of added this but charging for it but at the same time pretty much renting all their servers and making it impossible to find original servers and no way to separate them from the rented ones. So with the new change it makes it nearly impossible to play the game how it was to begin with because why woudl I want to join a rented server where the host can kick you at anytime and with all the lag issues and the fact they are all mainly hardcore servers.
This update has pretty much rendered the game unplayable for me now all they had to do is make an option to be able to have private matches with a few of your friends or even one on one and it would have been perfect.
What really grinds my gears is that not only are they making money from renting all these servers, they have basically said “Oh well we dont want to pay for these servers anymore, Oh I know how about the customer pay for them” so they are not even paying for the server costs anymore. Also, remember that when I says servers, your not renting your own dedicated server as it is all on cloud hosting and not a Massive room full of all these massive computers, it wouldn’t surprise me if it was hosting on Amazon CloudFront service.
I will tell you what the future is for the up coming Battlefield/Bad company series, you will get a disk they will install a few things on your Xbox but you will have to set up a monthly account for their hosting service that you will have to pay monthly for an apparent rented server so you can set up your games. You wait, that is coming!!
If I had of known what was coming when I purchased BattleField 3 I would not have purchased it and I just wish I could get a refund on it now. I was actually looking forward to the New Bad Company that I am sure will probably be out later this year because I am a huge fan of BC2 but I am not so optimistic now as the future looks bleak.
Sorry for the Rant and I am sure I will get many responses saying my post is just me bitching and moaning and they are right but wake up guys, EA are basically stealing money from our pockets without us even knowing by hiding it behind the nice words of “New Amazing update available”. They are trying to get a monopoly in the gaming market by taking over many game making firms to the point where you wont be able to buy a game that is not made by EA and then they can do what ever the hell they want.
I would just wish people to see the bigger picture.
I’d rather not play on servers called ‘BRAccck Yea BOIIIII’ with only Strike at Karkand at 1000 tickets when I hit Quick Play, thanks. The multiplayer was absolutely perfect, and this patch ruined it.
Actually John the multiplayer sucked before this patch. It was more like COD. This is BF a different game. I agree that Rent a Server sucks but I’ll still use it. Not to sound so rude but don’t be lazy, open the server browser selection just below Quick match and go from there. That way you KNOW what match your getting into.

I just wanna play the normal multiplayer and until that is an option I think BF3 will remain in its case

Sweet. Now, in addition to the 47 minutes my friends and I have to take to try to get in one game on the same team, we get to get booted from a server at some fucking faggots discretion. Can’t wait to sell this game back for the 8 dollars that it isn’t even worth..

I can’t agree more with the cry baby comments. If it’s not bitching about weapons and vehicles, its about servers. If it’s not about servers, its about DICE not doing their job or over doing it. Both CoD and BF3 have their ups and downs. You have to accept ALOT of server issues with a server based game, VS CoD which is HOST BASED, and you randomly deal with lag in every other game. All you people crying about the patch are the same ones crying about it NOT being patched. Now that DICE did something for you, its not good enough. When you log into a VAST community the size of a small empire, there are bound to be people who are happy with change, and those who are upset. Simple rule of thumb; you cant please everyone. DICE is doing a bang up job of maintaining a flowing gameplay ethic. Keep it up Dev’s. The Rent-A-Server option is GREAT. I don’t rent, but being able to find games that are actually moderated by live people who WILL KICK base vehicle killers and people who team kill FOR vehicles… just outstanding. The DICE servers still exist. So to all you cry babies who dont want to play in rented games, Server Browse and find a server to your liking. All this griping and moaning and belly aching just makes you all sound like pissed off lil preteens. Isnt this game rated “M”??? GTFO if you dont like it. There are games like Kinectimals and Avatar Golf which may suit your liking a bit more. No matter the changes made, BF3 still remains #1 in MMO in my book. Nothing against CoD, i just lost interest in the “twitch” fest corner campers.

I have always been a COD fanboy and when BF3 I decided to give it a shot and was sold from my first match. I’ll be the first to admit I’m a complete noob with a crappy KDR and could care less. I was having fun playing. Fast forward to present day……
I’m a believer in businesses doing what businesses do best……making money. So I’m not faulting EA for doing just that with rental services. Saying that after about 4 hours of complete frustration post patch I took my copy of BF3 straight to Gamestop and traded it in.
My first issue I had (and noticed it pre patch too) was I can’t stand coming into a game that is half-way over and is a complete Sh**t fest. Like I said it was a problem pre-patch but after a few minutes I could land a game that was pretty fresh. Post-patch I tried for hours trying to get into a game that wasn’t a complete cluster and I couldn’t.
My second issue and main reason I got rid of BF3 is, I’m a noob and I’m just playing to have fun, saying that I do not want to play on someones home turf. I just want to play a standard game normal rules and a bunch of random players. Playing on someone’s turf means their rules and if they don’t like you they kick you. Not cool. Being a noob it’s pretty much either a slaughter fest or if you start actually doing something good you have to worry about getting kicked (which happened to me and the excuse was it was only a “noob” server and I didn’t qualify).
I just don’t understand why they couldn’t leave a handful of servers public just for people like me, who don’t want to invest anymore money and just want to burn a few hours for fun.
Sorry EA but after this stunt, I won’t put my money into anymore of your products. $75 should’ve been enough to let me play.

i love this game but like many ppl think the rent a servers are shit. i just wants a normal game i joined a game the other day took out my stinger to take out a chopper that was constantly killing my team shoots it down and the bloke or kid in the chopper sends me a message no stingers or javelins so i replys so how am i supposed to take anything out he said well you dont to which i replyed so whats the point in having what i cant use its bollox and then bam im kicked it a sham i tell ya and its happened loads of times what gives these ppl the right to tell me how to play the game .im awesome at the game but am now getting fed up of ppl kicking me for doing nothing. most of u can sit there and say deal with the patch etc etc i can and do deal with it but what i cant deal with is the knobs who own the servers who think its ok to kick someone for using a certain weapon or just because they cant handle me kicking there ass
Why do I get kicked from vehicles can’t move when shot at can’t fire my gun when shot at and if try to run away from grenade I get pulled back onto it what’s up with this I’m also get server message at start of all games all of this never used to happen

Ok this is a joke right who has totally fucked up bf3 who is in control of the games keep get kicked and for fcukd if I now and why can I put a full mag into someone and they can walk away they can shoot me once and I glitch can’t move can’t shoot back they can then walk up to me and get a kill I can’t even move just stand there till I get killed lots of other strange stuf too this has taken all the fun out of the game and the next time I get admin kicked from a game when I have done not a different thing to when I started to play I’m gona kick the bf3 game to the bin roll on the new halo coz bf3 you have fcukd up and fcukd ppl off . Battlefield 3 is completely ruined, all the rented servers with specific rules makes the game crappy and laggy as hell. I want my DICE servers back.
