SoulCalibur V’s Story Was Originally Four Times Bigger

During an interview, SoulCalibur V’s director Daishi Odashima revealed that the game’s current story mode is only 1/4 the size of what he had hoped to create.

Originally, each character was to have their own story, just like past entries had done. Instead, SCV focused on the story of Pyrrha and Patrokolos, brother and sister reuiniting. Unfortunately, this scaled down story was the cause of time restrictions and lack of developers.

Here’s the official statement taken from the interview:

Our first plan on the storyboard was that we had every characters story, and actually we do have it in the studio, but time-wise, man power-wise we weren’t able to do it and only one fourth of what we planned to do is in the game

Another interesting detail was revealed as Odashima went on about the original story concept.

Some of the voice-overs are already taken but haven’t been used, so we want to make use of it somehow, but we don’t know how that’s going to be.

This could imply that certain characters (the ones with the voice-overs completed) may receive story DLC later down the road. Would you be interested in playing a new story mode revolving around someone besides Patrokolos and Pyrrha? If so, who would you want to see (besides Voldo)?

  1. It would be INCREDIBLE to have more stories to play through! I could only wish they’d be released as dlc later on, they would become my top dlc to own….
