Star Wars: The Old Republic Cost $200 Million To Make

Movies usually cost more than video games. In the case of Star Wars: The Old Republic, the game could very well be the most expensive video games ever made.

The LA Times has reported that the game cost $200 million to make. This is because the “story runs 1,600 hours, with hundreds of additional hours still being written. Nearly 1,000 actors have recorded dialogue for 4,000 characters in three languages”.

To try and recoup this huge budget, gamers will have to fork out $15 per month to play the game on top of the $60 regular retail price. There are over 1 million players who have already registered to play the game so it looks like EA and LucaArts will eventually make a profit out of the game in due time.

Star Wars: The Old Republic’s budget is as much as Hollywood movies including Titanic and Tranformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Although the movie doesn’t cost as much as Avatar and The Dark Knight Rises which have reported budgets of $230 million and $250 million respectively.
