WB Interactive has announced that Mortal Kombat has sold close to 3 million copies worldwide.
As Joystiq reported, this is a huge success for the franchise considering the series’ continuation was in doubt when Midway closed its doors a few years ago.
3 million copies is a huge feat considering it beat its main rivals in the fighting game market. Super Street Fighter IV sold 1.6 million copies while Marvel vs. Capcom 3 sold 2 million copies. Mortal Kombat also managed to sell a lot of copies despite being banned in Australia earlier this year.
