E3 2011: Nintendo Wii U Announced

This is the announcement we’ve all been waiting for. Reggie Fils-Aime, head of Nintendo of America has announced their new home console titled Wii U which will attempt to strike a medium between casual player’s and the hardcore fans. This new high-definition system and the controller was announced during the company’s E3 2011 press conference, and is due to launch sometime in 2012.

The new controller will feature a large, touch-capable screen, paired with two circle pads, a directional pad, face buttons, a camera, a gyroscope and an accelerometer. This new controller is unique in the fact that if you play a game on the system, and a friend wants to watch TV you can continue playing the game on your controller. However, Nintendo did say that is not designed to be a portable system.

The company also announced that any peripheral used on the Wii will be able to be used on the Wii U. That includes the Wii board, the Wii zapper, and of course your Wii mote. More information on the new Wii U will be presented throughout the week
