Video gaming has shifted towards digital downloads, but EA predicts that an all digital future won’t be happening soon.
EA CFO Blake Jorgensen recently commented at the Credit Suisse 2013 Technology Conference that an all-digital future won’t be occurring in the near future. He said that lower than 30% of PS4 and Xbox One games were sold digitally.
“I think a lot of the constraint there will continue to be bandwidth into people’s homes,” Jorgensen said. “At the same time, the size of games has gotten bigger and more complex and so it’s eaten up some of the benefits of [increased] bandwidth.”
This is good news for gamers that live in countries with internet data caps and slow speeds. PS4 and Xbox One games are huge and will take up more than half of my monthly internet data if I chose to download them digitally…
