Ryse: Son of Rome is the best looking game so far this generation

Ryse Son of Rome (1)

As you can tell from our review for Ryse: Son of Rome, we very much enjoyed it. However, I thought I would make another article just to restate how great the game itself looks. From my experience so far with next generation games, Ryse: Son of Rome stands above the rest graphically. Due to the controversy of the game being 900p rather than the previously announced 1080o, many might be surprised to learn that the game looks as good as it does.

While most other launch titles on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 do look very good, this one does truly Ryse to the occasion. The locations are gorgeous and perfectly crafted to the times, especially when being destroyed by attacking forces. The destruction you will witness throughout the game is consistently smooth as well.

Perhaps the standout graphically is the look of the characters themselves, with the best job of lip syncing that I’ve personally seen in a game. The movement of the characters, both in cutscenes and gameplay, is fluid to where you can definitely tell they spent a lot of time perfecting the art.

In terms of visuals, I must say that Ryse: Son of Rome has the best looking graphics on consoles to date where the promise of next-generation visuals can be seen. The moment you see the intro, your jaw will drop as it will give you the feeling you are watching a movie – perfect blend of light and shadows, realistic terrain and environments. — Mark Fajardo, Editor-in-Chief

If you have an Xbox One, Ryse: Son of Rome is one not to miss out on. The combat may be a little repetitive, like most games in this genre, and it is relatively short, but Ryse is worth at least a rent just to see how it looks in person.

  1. A blurry sub-HD, heavily linear/scripted game that struggles to maintain 25-30fps is your pick for best looking game ever? Whatever floats your boat man.

  2. @Joseph Lan- You aren’t very smart, buddy. “Sub-HD” means anything less than 720p. Ryse isn’t sub-HD. And the in-game character models of Ryse are 85K polys, versus 15K poly models for KZ: Shadowfall, so Ryse is way beyond anything on PS4 currently.

  3. I don’t know what the hell these first two ass are talking about. This game has absolutely amazing looking graphics and I am glad that I have it.

  4. Its all about the art style devs choose for there games look at Ryse which is 900p and Cod Ghost which is 1080p on a couple platforms. Ghost doesn’t look good at all no matter what resolution it is because of the art style the used. A good artist can make any game look great at any resolution

  5. i agree i have not see a better looking game than this. there is no blurry graphics in the game on my console i dont know where people get that from . and it runs smooth as as well there is no choppy frame rate issues ive finished the game and have yet to see anything wrong with this game exept for repetition on the battle field .

  6. It’s hilarious how idiotic anyone comes across saying this game looks bad, watch this game in motion and any gamer can see, particularly in the later levels, that this is one of the most beautiful games ever made and looks beyond anything I have seen this gen so far, and even pc.

  7. KZ Shadow Fall Helghast enemies each has 40000 Polygons and not 15000 Polygons, plus it runs at 1080p and 30FPS in SP while 1080p and 60FPS in MP, and according to Digital Foundry, KZ Shadow Fall has the most advanced SP on the planet while BF4 had the most advanced MP

  8. Fact of the matter is, Ryse runs at less than 1080p, and can’t even hold a steady 30fps (with drops to 16fps at times). It’s also an extremely linear, heavily scripted game, with limited AI and physics calculations.

It simply isn’t a very technically impressive game by any means (let alone the “best looking game ever” according to this article). It’s only saving grace is some nice facial animations and character detail, but that’s due more to good artists and animators than anything else.

It’s also a fact that all the “amazing” cinematic cutscenes this article describes are actually pre-rendered FMV videos. NOT real-time. So yeah… meh.

  9. @Guy Brohski

Character model polys don’t = more technically impressive game, it = more impressive character models. If beautiful character models decide a more technically impressive game, then heavy rain is better than uncharted 2….

There is a lot that goes into a game being more technically impressive, not just character models. Now is the art style better? perhaps. But this is all just personal opinion, some think Killzone SF is better, some think Ryse is better.

  10. lol best looking game this gen? Man if so we’re in some serious trouble. 900p @ 25fps lmfao!! Crysis 3 on PC on ultra @1440p looks way better than this crap game.

  11. I know it’s hard for Sony drones to admits a xbox one game looking better but it’s true and it just shows how talented developers can do more with less.

  12. The first two guys are right. This is a peice of shit game.

Oh, and whatever administrator/mod that fucking with the downvote/upvote stats: stop.

  13. Kzsf looks amazing but not nearly as amazing as ryse. If it was on ps4 it would look and run better but right now as it stands ryse is definitely without a doubt the best looking next gen game right now. When I show friends next gen games ryse is always the game that blows them away.
