Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army Review

Fun On Both Singleplayer & Co-op
Many sections of the levels have been quite obviously set up for multiple players, but you can happily enjoy the title with only one player. Things, such as plenty of angles to defend or aim from, are built for when there are more players but a gamer on their own can then just float between windows or openings to get the best shots. The design elements that have gone into making the game fun for the cooperative gameplay easily cross over to singleplayer. I’m impressed how well the game can handle both. Plenty of games designed for co-op are simply awful when on singleplayer. The same can be said for singleplayer games that have a clunky co-op addition on the side. Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army does a great job making the two fun, enjoyable experiences; surprisingly for the same reasons.

NOTs

Lack Of Plot
Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army is a truly fun and entertaining game. However, any thought of a story or plot must have been left at the meeting room door, when the game was originally thought of. There is brief introduction when Hitler himself decides to shoot one of his officers and order ‘Plan Z’. After this bar being told you are one of the only survivors that game simply revolves around markers and checkpoints. There isn’t even the premise of why you need to get to marker, it is just a simple objective made solely to lead the player directly through the Nazi Zombie Army. The way the game is set up is similar to Left 4 Dead with the overall objective to survive and make it to the end of the level, with safe houses along the way.

Bugs & Glitches
There are only a few relatively minor bugs and glitches to mention. Oddly when playing on singleplayer and not co-op the character didn’t always have a death animation. When my character died, the screen faded black and white as it should but the character model was still happily stood there on the screen. It isn’t a major problem as it doesn’t draw from the experience as it only occurs when a player dies.

Another bug is that of a rather random slow motion bullet effect. When the player shoots a zombie, occasionally they get to follow the bullet on the slow motion bullet camera which was previously mentioned. Sometimes though, the camera angle when shooting a zombie at very close range results in you missing the kill and just seeing the used bullet travelling through the air for a couple of extra seconds. Akin to the player, dying bug it isn’t a big game breaking and there doesn’t seem to be any. Hopefully, Rebellion can fix these few small bugs via patches in the near future.

Verdict

Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army can be summed up as a game with linear levels, safe rooms along the route, Nazi zombies, slow motion kills and explosions. It isn’t exactly the most original title ever but does that matter? Not in the slightest. Sometimes you want a game that is fun, fast paced and enjoyable. There isn’t a plot but there is a great zombie killing experience to be had both on your own and with friends in this action driven spinoff. Those after another Sniper Elite title, be warned it is rather different from the rest of the series but for those looking for a great shooter look no further.
